Endobronchial Valve Treatment
Endobronchial valve therapy with the Spiration® Valve System offers a new, minimally-invasive treatment option for severe emphysema patients.
The Spiration Valve is an umbrella-shaped device that is placed in targeted airways of the lung during a short bronchoscopic procedure. Once in place, the Spiration Valve redirects air from diseased parts of the lung to healthier parts, allowing the healthier lung tissue to expand and function more effectively. With a potential reduction in lung volume, a patient may be able to breathe more easily and experience improvement in their quality of life.1

Who Qualifies for the Spiration Valve System Procedure?
To determine eligibility for the Spiration Valve System procedure, patients are screened through a patient selection process initiated by their treating physician. Your treating physician will determine what tests are appropriate for you, but it is very common to have the following:
History / Physical Exam
This is the starting point of the patient’s evaluation, which includes understanding why they sought medical attention and an assessment of their current health status.
Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs)
These non-invasive tests show how well the lungs are working.
Chest X-ray
A picture of the chest that shows your heart, lungs, airway, blood vessels, and lymph nodes.
CAT Scan
Computed Tomography scans are images taken of a body part to help diagnose the disease and plan treatment.
6 Minute Walk Test
Measures the distance an individual is able to walk over a total of six minutes.
Arterial Blood Gas (ABG)
Measures the acidity (pH) and the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood from an artery.
Complete Cardiac Workup
Medical tests used to help physicians diagnose patients who are suspected of having potential heart complications.
